O’Barr Life Update – House Flipping & Stuff

O’Barr Life Update – House Flipping & Stuff

Hey Ya’ll(I never say Ya’ll but I mean we’re in the South so…)! Okay guys, I know that it has been way too long. I want to blog more but I just literally have had absolutely zero time to. House flipping just happens to be time consuming, who knew? And that’s where this life update comes in!

For those of you who don’t already know, Josh and I have moved from Idaho Falls, Idaho to Birmingham, Alabama to flip a house! We’ve been here since the middle of February, so about 3 months. We’re hoping to be finished at the beginning to mid July and slap it onto the market.

That’s the goal for now.

(I know you’re worried mom and it’ll be fine lol).

And I’ll also be sharing other fun things of the South that we’ve been experiencing while we’re here!

The Flip

Whew, right now it’s not looking glorious but we have come a long way, don’t worry guys. When we paint it the flip will be SO GORG guys omg, it’ll be great. Pinterest dreams right here, I’m telling you. Follow me on Pinterest btw. I’m pinning all of my inspo for the flip along with other awesome stuff.

OOoooo watch out for the next Flip or Floppers heading your way, Ya’ll!

Let’s start by talking about getting here, shall we? It was a 32 hour drive from Idaho in our tiny Honda with no shocks or A/C(luckily the a/c wasn’t an issue tho🙏🏼).When we first arrived, the house was rat, spider, hand prints and freaky meth-head poems on the walls, mold, and whatever else scary infested! We came into here thinking we would find a some homeless hobo living in here haha.

Then we had to drive back to Utah a month and a half later, for our best friends Braden and Aubrey’s wedding(we love you guys)! And back again.

But on our way, we went through New Orleans and tried Rabbit at Coop’s Place, watched the fortune tellers, had beads thrown at us, went dancing, and drove home that night!

We have been working on this house pretty much everyday but Sunday(the Sabbath) and we are doing basically everything on our own to save money.

Imagine us out there sweating to death(thank you Southern humidity) and handing Josh tools, heavy lifting, and pretty much being a full blown construction worker! For those of you who don’t know what it’s like to work construction all day, I’m sure you can imagine that you hardly have energy to do anything else.

Quick rundown of what we’ve done so far: TONS of yard work(I won’t get into the list of vines everywhere and such, but trust that it’s a lot), there was a massive amount of random junk in the house that we filled 4 of those construction trailer garbage things with, the roof is redone and sheet rocking is done(we had to have a crew do that), the plumbing is fixed, we fixed the pipes under the house to get water running, we fixed the gas lines so we could have heat(we took ice cold showers for almost two months), we reframed part of the house, and now we’re putting siding up.

Before & After

When we first got here, there were an endless amount of leaves that had built up over 8 years!

Note: I’m only showing photos of the outside because things from now on are going to be huge changes, and I want the full effect for the before and after when we are completely done!

The after pictures are pretty much current except there is more grass now. We are painting the outside this week and it’s going to look completely transformed. We’re excited! I was going to take new ones for this, but it’s been crazy tropical storming lately, so I haven’t had the chance. These will have to do 💁🏻

But in between everything, we’ve managed to have some fun!

School & Life in General

I’ve also been taking a full load of online classes, which on it’s own keeps you busy. I’m currently taking Information Design, Photography 1, Environmental Stewardship, and Natural Disasters. This Fall, Josh is g oing to get his Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a minor in Accounting and I’ll be getting my Associate’s Degree! 🎉 🎓 We’re soooo excited you don’t even know haha. Josh is so ready to just be done at this point! And I’m excited to have a mile stone completed!
We are SO excited to show you guys what the house looks like. I’m doing a before and after on the whole thing, so keep an eye out! I’ll be doing photos on here and a video transformation.

But hey, while I’ve been MIA, my YouTube videos have been growing 🙂 My most watched video is at 8,885 views and the next after that is at over 6,000 views! 🎉  Check iiiiit here!

Some fun stuff we’ve been doing besides the house

The Birmingham Zoo. I saw a new kind of elephant!

Our neighbors love us. Bama Bill and Lynn take us out to eat more than they should and invite us over for lemonade on their porch regularly. Dennis of the Bible and his wife Jane have us over for brunch a lot and they always like to brag that we are among the few who they invite over. We love our neighbors! Southern hospitality is real guys.

Hope you enjoyed this life update! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them down below!

Yay! Yeah seriously tho. I think I might do a couple peices as we go along like small bathroom renovation, diy fireplace renovation, etc.

Aw you all are totally adorable, and don’t worry the use of “y’all” will get easier the longer you’re here! HAHA maybe you two can come to North Carolina and help flip our house. 😉

You are too sweet, thank you! Haha yeah we’re already starting to get the hang of the southern lingo 🙂 Lol that’d be awesome! I’ve driven through North Carolina and I love the architecture of the houses there. Being an Idaho girl, it’s a lot different, in a good way!
