Weekend Fun in Avondale

Weekend Fun in Avondale

Hey hey! How was your weekend? Here in Birmingham, there’s actually a surprising amount of things to do! I thought it’d be fun to share about our little weekend fun in Avondale as we tried some new food and went to the movies!
So we were feeling pretty adventurous on Saturday, and we decided to really have a fun date night while trying out a new restaurant and a new ice creamery. I searched all over Pinterest(follow me on Pinterest btw!) where the best places to eat in Birmingham were. We decided that we were feeling pizza🍕 so we went to this place called Post Office Pies. It’s basically this pizza place that’s located right in like the “hip” area of Birmingham, which that part of Birmingham is called Avondale. In the restaurant, there were a ton of people there so we barely found a place to sit. People were sharing tables with strangers and stuff, and it was raining outside(as usual), so nobody could really go outside and eat unless they wanted soggy pizza. We ordered “The Swine” pizza, which is basically like the meat lovers of every other pizza place. That’s the pizza that I always fall back on because I feel like you just can’t go wrong with pepperoni and sausage. What was especially unique about this place, was that you got to watch them make your pizza! It looks so delicious in the photos(and in real life) and it ended up tasting really good. It was fairly expensive for a pizza at about $17, so I’m not sure if it was totally worth the price, but it tasted more wholesome, which I liked.

Afterwards, we ran through the rain to our car and google searched where we should go next. There are so many unique places right in Avondale that it was tough to decide! We agreed to try the Big Spoon Creamery for some ice cream! It was right around the corner so it was really convenient too. I was so impressed by the interior designing of this place. Everything looked so cute and modern. My Pinterest self was vibing really hard and loving every second of it. Again, because of the rain, the place was packed to the point where moving was barely an option. I saw that they had a lot of outside space, so I’m assuming that it usually isn’t like that. My favorite thing about Big Spoon was there tiny little countertop. It was super skinny and just the perfect size to place your ice cream on and nothing else. I thought it was great innovative thinking! I got cookies and cream(as usual) and Josh got this blueberry cobbler shake. They ended up not being as great as we had hoped for, but it was still a fun experience trying it out!

We loved Spider-Man. We actually did this last weekend, but I thought I’d include it. The movie theater is so awesome in Trussville! The neon lights are really awesome. Movie theater popcorn is always ridiculously expensive, but that’s just something we love to buy! Usually Josh throws in a slushy, but we ended up just sticking with the popcorn. We went to Spider-Man and we were so pumped because Marvel makes the best movies. It was hilarious! We definitely thought it was a breath of fresh air. In the past, I felt that the Spider-Man movies were semi depressing. This one was great and they really portrayed his age super well.

That’s it for our adventures! I hope you enjoyed and got some ideas for you to do for date night.

This looks like such a fantastic time! (And your pizza looks incredible, btw. It’s only 10:50 am here, and I’m already hungry for lunch- ha). I especially love that you didn’t plan EVERYTHING about your night. For dessert, you just searched google and went to what sounded good. I love that spur-of-the-moment idea.
